With Amara Al Amir
Why should I take this workshop; Historically Dancers of the Middle East dancers pictured on temples and tombs with props, like water jugs, staffs, rattles, fire disks on their heads and more. As a way to generate excitement for celebration, reverence for loss, and a guiding force into the darkness leading into light. As time advanced, props became even more embedded into cultural dance. Swords, Cane, Jugs, Candalabras, Trays of Candles, even chairs and glasses. Adding a prop to your dance is critical to expanding the value of your performance. Spellbinding effects that can be created even for the simplest of presentation will impress your audience and give you considerable options to expand your show, command respect. Now how do we accomplish this? The art of dancing with a prop has been documented historically as well. We have choices in how we present the prop and use our body while balancing props, not all props are kept on the head while dancing, they switch from the head to the hand and use on other parts of the body. Amara will teach, illustrate and guide you as to how to incorporate props, in particular the Candle Tray. We will speak about the difference between the tray and other props. We will learn basic moves that highlight the balancing to it's best effect. Use of the tray in other fabulous ways will be taught. Easy floorwork and elaborate floorwork will be taught either standing or on floor. We will learn how to adapt this to just using candles in hands. All this will be taught in sections so it is easily adapted to other music. This is great for solos, duets, groups. I have wonderful DVDs of workshops taught using both sword and candle tray in the same dance to Alf Layla, Now on sale, see Coupon at the top of the page. We will learn to different music a new adaptation. This is a one time opportunity to expand your dance, have alot of fun and learn authentic use of props appropriate for Middle Eastern Dance.
